The air-fryer is a small kitchen appliance that cooks food by circulating hot air around it, using convection. It mimics deep frying but uses little to no oil, making it a healthier alternative for crisping foods like potatoes, tofu, and vegetables. It also serves well when using frozen foods, as well as leftovers.
Types of Air Fryers
- Basket-Type Air Fryers
- Most common design
- Food goes into a pull-out basket
- Simple and compact–also ideal for steaming vegetables
- Best for small families or individuals
- Oven-Style (Toaster Oven) Air Fryers
- Looks like a mini oven with a door and racks
- More capacity & versatile (bake, broil, dehydrate)
- Can cook multiple items at once
- Best for larger households, and a kitchen with more counter space
- Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combos
- A multi-function device that combines air frying, toasting, baking, etc.
- More expensive but replaces several appliances
- Ideal for those wanting one appliance for many tasks
Key Features to Consider: Find an air fryer that meets your needs (2-10 quarts). Wattage is important, as it affects cooking speed. Another consideration is using a parchment pan-liner if you are using a non-stick, basket-type of an appliance.
